Egypt 8 – 26 November 2023

The conflict between Israel and Palestine has been escalating since early October, and we had been monitoring the situation to make a decision whether to go or not. Of special concern was an incident that occurred on the Egyptian side of the border. Egypt is refusing to allow Palestinians into the country and we were not sure if we should go. However, as the day of our flight grew closer, government travel advisory sites were still not saying not to go, so we boarded our flight in Rome, bound for Cairo on 8 November as planned.

We loved Egypt. It’s raw, gritty and unpolished. The 5-star-set polish is sparse and you just need to take a few steps away from the glitz of the tourist sector for the reality of Egypt. It’s wonderful, authentic and energetic. The people are friendly and welcoming, but you do need to remember that their is usually an ulterior motive – cash. It’s just them doing their job, but once you have an agreement in place, the friendliness and warmth feels more genuine, and service provides do a great job. Most transactions are honest; yes, it’s the tourist price, but it’s still fabulous value for money.

Keep an open mind, stay patient and be aware, and you will have an unforgettable experience.
